Six months to develop a personal photographic body of work.

SHADOWWORKS is a six-month photographic mentorship for photographers who want to make personal work and develop a more considered photographic practice.

You might arrive with the beginning of an idea. An unfinished project. A question you keep returning to. Or simply the feeling that you want to make work again, but you’re not quite sure where to begin.

Over six months, we work together to find a way into that work and give it the time, attention and structure it needs to develop.

The mentorship combines individual guidance, group critique, workshops, independent making and conversations around photography. We move through the full process of developing a project — from the first idea and making photographs, through editing and sequencing, to writing, printing, presentation and exhibition.

The aim is not to make a particular kind of photography. It is to understand more clearly what you are interested in, why you are making the work, and how to take it further.

At the end of the six months, each photographer presents a personal body of work as part of the SHADOWWORKS group exhibition at Ultraviolet Gallary in Cape Town.
